Multiple land-use through effective usage of subsurface dimension

Landmark for the identity of underground space

The multiple land use of the railway tunnel site can not yet be used as an outstanding example of strategic use of underground space. The underground trainstation on the other hand is leading example for the integration of underground architecture in its urban surroundings. Situated directly above the Willems-railtunnel, arc and saucer give dramatic expression to the underground presence of station Rotterdam Blaak.
The entrance to the station, located directly underneath the transparent saucer, combines architecture, daylight entry, social safety and circulation into one comprehensive solution.
